Where a picture book is worth a thousand words....
TAKE THE LEAP!
Marathon n. 1. a long-distance race. 2. a race of about 26 miles. 3. a month, during which children's writers compose one picture book each day until they have written 26 picture books. Several rest days allowed!
For our purposes, we're defining a picture book as (1) a story or narrative, (2) with a beginning, middle, and end, (3) for children, and (4) intended to be illustrated. Remember these are likely to be rough, rough drafts.
In 2011, 425 writers and illustrators worldwide put their creativity to the test. Fifty intrepid finishers wrote a picture book a day (or illustrated an idea for a picture book cover). A few did both! Many more ran at a slower pace, while still jumpstarting their work. For a complete breakdown of the final stats, take a look at the blog.
